French Cultural Center

French Cultural Center

This project has been implemented in two phases, Phase I completed in 1998 create a new building wing organizing new classrooms and a multipurpose conference room. The architecture concept develops a building inspired from the Lao traditional architecture on columns. The building is a masonry ground floor designed with large square columns holding a wooden structure first floor organizing the classrooms and large verandas allowing students staying outside protected from the rain during the monsoon season.
Phase II project in 2000 planed to re-design the administration existing 1970 building and to create an open air roof protected cafeteria. The project re-designed the administration building creating a public library on the ground floor and administration services on first floor. The cafeteria is located on the site in a way to link buildings together creating a covered way for the rainy season. The wooden structure is made of round column holding a wooden and bamboo roof structure roofed with traditional straw. This central open cafeteria space became the earth of the Center; allowing Lao and foreign students meeting for sharing meals.
