European Union Delegation Office

Winner of the 2005 architecture design competition for the European Union New Premises in Lao P.D.R, the project considered several issues of energy saving to create this office building concept. The concept organizes a two stories building with a reference to Lao traditional architecture on stilt. The building H plan design creates two patios increasing the surface of opening to optimize natural lighting into the building. The building energy saving issue has been considered by designing the ground floor external wall with a double masonry layer insulated by an air space. The ground floor external wall thick walls increase the feeling of strength and security of the building.
The first floor external glass walls are sun protected by a second external skin made of electrical aluminum louvers allowing either to fully close down the façade or regulate the light according the user needs. The building large ground floor opening and first floor glass walls will allow users to work all day long with natural light. The concept of energy saving buildings architecture is develop project after project by Ateliers de la Péninsule in Laos which provide all climate conditions for such architecture.
