Traditional Architectures in Northern LaosIn 1991, Francois Greck carried out ground-breaking field research in Northern Lao province of Phongsaly under academic supervision of la Sorbonne University and CNRS Research Unit "History of the People and Civilisations of the Indochinese Peninsula" (Director: Pierre-Bernard Lafont). This unprecedented study focused on Tibeto-burmese hill tribes vernacular architectural designs, construction techniques and related animist rituals and beliefs. The findings of this three years long research are documented in Francois Greck's Master thesis for la Sorbonne as well as in publications by Dr. Oumphan Rattananvong, Director of the Institute for Social Science of Lao P.D.R. This work was also presented at the Asia Society in New York and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. |
